CHEKHOV
The University of Miami's Theatre Arts Department presents two works that show the versatility, endurance and pleasure of Anton Chekhov's plays. "The Cherry Orchard" is a wise, witty and compassionate portrait of a disappearing way of life in turn-of-the century Russia. The story of a once-prosperous family facing financial ruin and an uncertain future was translated by "Noises Off" author Michael Frayn. 8 p.m. today (2/19), Wednesday (2/25) and Feb. 27; 3 p.m. Sunday; and 2 p.m. Feb. 28. "Anton in Show Business" is a hilarious skewering of theatrical egos battling through an ill-fated production of Chekhov's "Three Sisters" set in Texas. Winner of the 2001 American Theatre Critics' Steinberg New Play Award. 8 p.m. Friday, Sunday and Feb. 26 and 28; 2 p.m. Saturday. Admission $16 Friday and Saturday nights, $14 other performances.
