Palm Beach Dramaworks Studio Theatre presents "The Dresser" by Ronald Harwood. The plot revolves around Sir, the last of the great breed of English actor-managers. As his dresser tries to prepare him to go on stage as King Lear, he is having difficulty remembering who and where he is, let alone Lear’s lines. With a Herculean effort on the part of Norman, the dresser, Sir finally makes it on stage and through the performance in a World War II-era English provincial theater during an air raid. Backstage after the performance, more drama unfolds and presents a challenge even Norman is not prepared for. 8 p.m. Fridays and select Saturdays, 2 p.m. Sundays, at 322 Banyan Blvd., West Palm Beach. $25 adults, $22.50 seniors, $10 students. ‘RUM AND COKE’ (EXTRA DATE)
Cuban American actress and playwright Carmen Pelaez’s acclaimed comedy runs through Feb. 8. "Rum & Coke" showcases Ms. Pelaez’s dramatic and comedic talents as a writer, performer and director when she portrays a host of colorful characters – fictionalized versions of real-life women she has known. Her characters include an aging ÈmigrÈ aunt, a psychic, a Cuban hooker who supports an ungrateful family and a former dancer at Havana’s famous Tropicana who now works in the nightclub’s bathroom folding and selling toilet paper. "My Cousin’s Wedding" follows an unmarried couple as they face a relative’s wedding from the paranoia of choosing the perfect wedding gift to the humiliation of performing the chicken dance at the reception.
