CELEBRATION ON FAMILY PHILANTHROPY
   United Way of Miami-Dade and the Joe Robbie Foundation for Children will host an inaugural event to honor families who nurture the spirit of giving. Four local families will be honored: The Dotson family, the Feldenkreis family, the Pantin family and the Pappas family. Proceeds benefit the United Way Center for Excellence in Early Education. GATEWAY FUNDRAISER

PIONEER DAY

MIAMI BOOK FAIR
   Miami International Book Fair opens with an afternoon with Sandra Cisneros talking about her new novel Caramelo. Each night a different author reads and discusses a newly published book during the "An Evening With..." events. Throughout the weekend, neighboring streets will be home to the street fair where visitors can attend presentations and workshops conducted by best-selling authors. CARBONELL AWARDS
   Broadway stars shine at the 27th annual Carbonell Awards, honoring the best of South Florida's theater community. Winners will be announced along with awards for touring productions and special achievements.
