Miami High Tech, by Miami Today reporter Candice Ventra, condenses the latest news in the Miami Internet and technical worlds.

E-HEARTS: The people at computer retailer Gateway Country say they want to put an interactive twist to the Valentine's Day card tradition by offering you a chance to electronically send a video Valentine to family and friends. You can record a greeting of up to 25 seconds and e-mail it to friends and family from any Gateway Country Store through Feb.14. The public will have the chance to view the videos and vote for the most romantic at gateway.com, officials said. The grand prize is a trip for two to Paris. Three runner-ups will receive flowers every month for one year.

MORE GATEWAY: Also, Gateway Country stores in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties are offering free in-store seminars. Gateway representatives say the February schedule includes topics such as technology for active seniors, ask a tech, getting started with the Internet, digital photography and imaging, educating your children with technology and broadband. Details: gateway.com.

GAINING SPEED:
Officials at Miami Ramada Ltd., 7600 N Kendall Drive, announced the addition of high-speed Internet access through an agreement with Worldcom and UUNE. A media advisory says users will also have access to other high-tech products and services, such as multiple phone lines and data ports.

VAMOS AQUI: Eleven information technology companies targeting business development in Latin America will present business plans to investors at the Vamos Wireless! 2001 Conference & Venture Market on Feb. 12-13 in the Biltmore Hotel, 1200 Anastasia Ave., Coral Gables. Organizers at Latin Venture say the companies — selected by a panel of judges prior to the conference — are seeking both first- and second-round financing. Nine of 11 finalists have plans that employ wireless Internet application for the Latin American market as a major component of their business models, officials said. The conference targets Internet companies looking to enter Spanish- and Portuguese-language markets in Latin American with information, capital and strategic alliances.
