GATE CLINICS: Executives at computer manufacturer Gateway Inc. say they have launched a program to help South Florida consumers and businesses better understand computer technology. Promoters say the company will offer free weekly seminars and clinics on aspects of the computer industry. Classes will be held at participating Gateway Country stores in South Florida. SHOP & INVEST:
Investshop.com, a financial services portal, launched a portion of its operations in Miami. The e-company provides professional services to Latin American investors both professional and inexperienced. To date the site has 200,000 registered users, promoters say. Details: (212) 371-5999.

SALUD SALE: Miami-based Salud.com, a Spanish-language medical site, has been acquired by Millennium Health Communications. The Virginia-based on-line medical company operates Health24News.com, a health news portal, and Meditrader.com, an e-commerce site.


THE SOURCE:
Source International, a Miami-based global business-sourcing firm, has launched a trade network that offers a customized menu of goods for Latin American importers and exporters, promoters say. The network matches up potential sellers and buyers in Latin America to other countries via the Internet. Details: (305) 418-1329.

LIGHT SPEED:
Hollywood-based lightspeedi.com, the site for LightSpeed Infrastructure, announced the launch of the website in English and Spanish. The company, executives say, develops "smart buildings" for the high-tech industry.

SPEED LEASE:
LightSpeed Infrastructure signed a lease with Exodus Communications Inc. — a web-host company. Exodus will move into a 370,000-square-foot building dubbed LightSpeed Center in Beacon Tradeport in Miami, promoters say. Codina Realty Services Inc. Oncor International represented the owner and Insignia ESG represented Exodus in the deal.

NEW ROLE:
Executives at Fiera.com, a Miami-based e-commerce site for Latin America, have appointed Del Van Dorn president and general manager of the company's consumer division department. Before joining Fiera.com, Mr. Van Dorn founded and led a Manhattan-based retail management consulting firm, Van Dorn Retail Management, for 15 years.

SITE LAUNCH: Punto.com, an Internet media company covering the Latin American Internet economy, will be launched at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Ice Palace Studios, 59 NW 14th St. Keynote speakers will be Tom Wolfe, author of "Bonfire of the Vanities," and Bill Emmot, editor-in-chief of the Economist.


SCHOOL LIST: Miami-Dade County Public Schools offers more than 100 programs in adult and vocational education and some 70 magnet programs for public school kids, officials say. A full list of programs and locations is available at www.edworks.org.
