Miami-Dade agricultural losses estimated at 40%

South Florida’s agricultural output, which is valued at $700 million, experienced a 40% loss as a result of Hurricane Irma, according to preliminary numbers from the US Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency.
“The percentage is relatively low because all of the spring crops were already taken out and no crops were in the ground,” said Jorge Abreu, executive director at the Dade County Farm Bureau. “If this would have happened a month later it would have been a lot worse.” …To read the full story click here
