Profile: Leoncio de la Peña

Having been an animated debater in his younger years, Leo de la Peña thought he’d enjoy being a litigator. He was correct and finds the work comes naturally and is one of the great passions of his life.

Mr. de la Peña has been an attorney since 1984, concentrating his practice on business litigation for national and international clients. He spends a lot of time traveling and said there’s never a boring day in his line of business. The practice of law changes, Mr. de la Peña said, so he must keep learning and constantly be on his toes.

Miami is a spectacular place to live with a great future, Mr. de la Pena believes, but he said one of our challenges is that we need to have more Fortune 500 companies here. He also thinks Miami needs a much stronger middle class.

Working in the field of law is fascinating for Mr. de la Peña, but it’s his four children who he said are his way to contribute to the world. He says they have the ability to make the planet a better place and feels blessed with “an absolutely wonderful wife” who has taught him many things, including charity.

Miami Today reporter Susan Danseyar recently interviewed Mr. de la Peña in his Brickell Avenue office.
