After being a state legislator since 2002, Juan Zapata has been a county commissioner for just over a year. Born to Colombian parents in Peru, Mr. Zapata has lived in Miami-Dade County since 1977.
Mr. Zapata is currently advocating for an overall look at the county’s infrastructure, is working with FIU to create a master plan for District 11 and seeks a discussion with the community he represents on whether it wishes to incorporate as a city.
Miami Today reporter Vanessa Zambrano interviewed Commissioner Zapata at West Kendall Baptist Hospital.
